2011 Blue-White Scholarship Breakfast April 14, 2011

Yes…I’ve got a lot going on in my world right now!  Between work, my new book, and hosting the Blue-White Scholarship Breakfast this weekend, things have been a bit nuts.

Let me tell you a little more about the breakfast…

This will be our 6th year hosting the annual Blue-White Scholarship Breakfast.  This fund-raising event is held the morning of the Blue-White game on Saturday, April 16th at the Nittany Lion Inn in State College, PA.

For the past few years, our speakers at the breakfast have been outstanding!  We’ve had former Penn Staters such as DJ DozierAndre Collins , and Adam Taliaferro.  This year, Leo and Stefen Wisniewski will be our speakers and we are expecting another exciting event this year!

We will also be hosting a silent auction during the breakfast featuring autographed items from former Penn Staters.

Here are a few pictures of some of this year’s  silent auction items…

Tickets for the breakfast/silent auction are just $25.

Since many are not able to attend the event, we offer the opportunity to support the young people that we serve.  Your donation will help us support their academic pursuits.

We have made it very simple to either purchase tickets for the event, or make a donation.  Click here to make a donation to the scholarship fund, and click here to purchase tickets to the breakfast (via the Paypal service).

Tickets to the breakfast can be purchased at the door.  However, please let us know in advance if you intend to come so that we can properly prepare.

Or you can mail a check, payable to ‘Community Refuge Education Center’ to:

Giving Back: Penn State Trip & Blue-White Breakfast April 28, 2010

I was able to catch up with Coach Paterno before the Blue-White game.

We recently returned from another trip to Penn State University for the annual Blue-White Spring Football game.  Every year, for the past 11 years, we’ve taken a group of students to State College, PA, for a weekend of discovery, exposure, and fun.

Many of the young men that we take are from single-parent and/or low-income families.  Most of them have never been on a college campus before.  Through sponsorships and grants, we give them an opportunity to take an overnight trip away from home, learn about a great university, and meet some of the country’s finest student-athletes.

This is one of the ways that I’m able to give back.  As a former football player at Penn State, I am able to provide these students with access to an incredible program – and incredible people – that the general public rarely gets to see.  They meet former Penn State football legends, and the money that we raise during the Blue-White Scholarship Breakfast goes directly to scholarships for those who qualify.

Click here to see a recent article in Fight On State magazine about our trip.

This continues to be one of the most exciting things that I do during the course of the year.

It just goes to show…It really is more blessed to give than to receive.
